Is Your Plumbing Ready for the Holiday Season?

The Holiday Season is here at last! As you hang wreaths and wrap gifts, don’t forget about plumbing. This may not be the most fun thing to keep in mind this time of year, but it is one of the most important! Your plumbing fixtures and pipes need a little bit of attention to ensure that your home makes it through the celebration and festivities without any mishaps. Don’t worry, all you need to do is take a few minutes to walk through your house and check your plumbing. Most of the issues and problems listed here are easily remedied.

#1 More activities means more clothes washing! Your washer and dryer are going to get quite a workout during the Holiday Season. Make sure your washing machine hoses are not dried out and cracking, and check your dryer’s exhaust vent. This accumulated lint is a fire hazard, which is silly since it’s so easy to remove the hazard.

#2 You’ll also need more showers! Whether your family is going to more parties or you have extra out-of-town guests staying with you, the shower will be running much more often than normal during this season. Be sure your water heater is up to the challenge. Erratic temperatures or rusty water means a problem. If everything is not in order, you will want to give Plumbers Cheap a call right away. Are your shower heads low-consumption/high efficiency models? More people means more water consumption and higher bills. Be proactive to keep those bills manageable by having us put new showerheads on.

#3 Check out your guest bathroom. Take a quick peek at any rarely used bathroom in your home. Does water flow quickly down the drains? Do the faucets leak? Are they easy to turn on/off or do they stick? Flush the toilet too. Do you hear water running inside the tank? Are there rusty spots or puddles at the base of or under the tank? Remind your younger guests that excessive amounts of toilet paper, not to mention toys and other oddities, will clog toilets and cause a big problem.

#4 Don’t forget the kitchen sink! A holiday meal means more dishes being washed and more food crumbs going into the disposal. Check your kitchen disposal unit to ensure it is working efficiently. Never pour hot grease down the drain and not to put bones in the disposal either. Keep a container next to the coffeemaker for used coffee grounds, as this is bad for your pipes too.

#5 Time your water usage. A little planning goes a long way when extra showers need to be taken. Try to use your dishwasher and washing machine overnight so that they don’t use up the hot water when your guests need them.

Remember that Plumbers Cheap is here for all of your plumbing needs, during the 2020 Holiday Season and the rest of the year. If you follow this checklist and notice a problem, give us a call right away. We can be reached at 855-890-7713.
